It's time for "Personal Pronouns" in Indonesian language.
FIRST PERSON singular = i, me
-Saya = It's mostly and generally spoken word for "I", usually it's used in public speaking, and for speaking with new people for the first time we meet.
-Aku = It's used when we speak with someone that has a good relation with us , in other word, someone with a close relation with us ( Family, best friend ), and for talking with children.
SECOND PERSON singular = you
-Kamu/ Kau/ Engkau = We use this to address someone we know very close and usually he or she has the same age with us or maybe younger than us. It can be also used to talk with children and students.
-Anda/ Saudara = It's used mostly when we are on a public speaking or to speak someone who is younger than us or the same age like us. Moreoever , it's usually used to address someone new or for the first time we meet.
-Mas = It has the same usage like "Anda" for male only, but it's considered to be politer and friendlier and it's quite popular to use this in public so that we can be considered friendly to people we talk with.
-Mba = It's the same function like "Mas". It's only for a woman or a girl.
-Pak/ Tuan = To address a man, especially with older age and higher social degree/ status such as our father, superior and teachers . It's used to talk with someone who is already married.
-Ibu/ Nyonya = The opposite of "Pak/ Tuan". It's for married woman.
-Nona = Nowadays , it's probably used very rare.
THIRD PERSON singular = he, she, it
-Dia/ Ia = both can be used to address male and female persons.
-Beliau = It's used to call or talk with someone we respect so much or is considered to be respectable. It's usually often to use it to talk with older person
FIRST PERSON plural = we
-Kami = We use this when the person we talk with is excluded from us.
For example :
She stays home, but we are going out tonight.
( Dia tinggal di rumah, tapi kami pergi malam ini )
-Kita = If the person we talk with is included with us ( one of us ), we can use this pronoun.
For example :
Tidak ada orang di rumah itu saat besok sore, kita harus pergi malam ini.
( There's no one in that house at tomorrow afternoon, we must go tonight )
SECOND PERSON plural = you
-Kalian = to address people. Often, we use this in public especially for speaking with new people.
-Kamu sekalian = use this to talk with people we know very well.
-......Sekalian = use this to call a group of people, add some of following words in the front of this pronoun ( Bapak-bapak, Ibu-Ibu, Saudara-saudara ). This pronoun is often used in public speaking. *Duplication in pronoun is a way to express plural.
THIRD PERSON plural = they
-Mereka
For example :
1. Mereka adalah murid-murid saya.
( They are my pupils )
2. Para murid sekarang tinggal di rumah mereka.
( The students now live in their house )
