~“ter-“ in Indonesian language resembles to “di-“ verb
Literally ,It has four functions, and there are :
1. A condition caused by a complete action,
therefore it resembles to past participle in English and it acts as an adjective.
For example :
Buku tersebut di sana = the book mentioned there
Saya melihat pintu terbuka = i saw a opened door
2. An Unintentional/ involuntary action ( by mistake
)
For example :
Buku saya terbawa oleh temanku
My book was taken by my friend by mistake
Jari ibuku terpotong pisau ketika sedang memotong
sayur
My mother cut her finger by accident
3. A likelihood
For example :
Suara kereta terdengar dari atas gedung
The train noise can be heard from above building
Tulisannya tidak terbaca
His writing can’t be
read
4. Emotional expressions
Mereka semua terdiam ketika guru menjelaskan sesuatu
kepada mereka
They silenced while the teacher was telling
something to them
Please diffrentiate verb with “ter-“ with “ter- +
adjective” which shows the superlative
For example :
Kamu terindah
untukku
You are the most beautiful for me
