Verbs in Indonesian Language 2 ( verbs with "ber-" )

Verbs with prefix "ber-"

-Indonesian's verbs with "ber-" are intransitive in general

For example :
  • Bekerja = to work
  • Berlayar = to sail
  • Berlari = to run
Explanation :

1. When the root word of the verb starts with letter "r" or  the first syllable has an "r" in it,
the "r" is omitted from "ber-"
For example :  bekerja = to work ( not berkerja )
2. The only exception is only for "belajar", not berlajar, beside belajar is a root word.
In addition, verbs " bermain" and "belajar", nevertheless, both can be also transitive
For example :  Mereka bermain komputer ( they play computer ), Dia belajar itu ( she study it )

3. "ber-" + noun means :

~to have/ to own ( it shows possession )
For example : Dia berbaju biru ( He has blue shirt )

~to utilize / to make use of
For example : Ayo kita bersepeda ( Let's go cycling )
